Choosing an Enclosure Manufacturer

When you decide to purchase a home, you don’t drive by the house, then call the agent and pay the money – do you? Well for sure I would do my homework and you need to as well.

The same can be said for purchase an enclosure or a kiosk, purchasing a kiosk enclosure is an investment and should not be entered into lightly.

Choosing a manufacturer.
There are many high quality manufacturers throughout the world and on the flip side there are manufacturers who will come up with a product that is marginal, as they see enclosures for digital signage as a high profit maker, so one of the first things to do is look at their testimonials, check them to see if the customers are from the digital signage or retail sector, it is no good if you choose a manufacturer who has little knowledge of digital signage.

For example if you see a web site and the customer recommendations are from manufacturing or industrial companies, the chance is the manufacturer has supplied them with an industrial enclosure for their factory floor not a digital outdoor enclosure, so they will not understand fully the requirements for signage access.

Another tool in checking out a manufacturer is to visit their manufacturing facility; here you can see how much of the production is actually related to dynamic signage, you will also be able to get a feel for the units as the most successful manufacturers will have the odd kiosk in their reception or foyer, so visitors can have a play and see the quality of their work.

One company we know have an “open door policy”, so if anyone wants to visit their site they just call in and they are shown round the facility, the Manager has been caught out a few times in jeans and flip flops, however the product and reputation of the company speaks for itself.

Choosing The Right Enclosure For A Kiosk Project

Choosing the right enclosure for your kiosk can make you outdoor digital signage campaign a success providing you know what to look for. When you are deploying a kiosk project it can be a daunting task, but the correct way to start the project is with the enclosure that will be based around the kiosk.

The general public may view a kiosk as a metal box, how wrong they are, but at the end of the day they are the customer and the customer is always right.

Getting the “metal box” right is a crucial as the touch screen, hardware or software, the best way to look at an enclosure as the skin and bones of a kiosk, whilst he computer gathers information and crunches numbers the enclosure does the job it was designed for and that is to protect. It will also withstand abuse, both the malicious type and the everyday wear and tear

Stop calling it a metal box!
Some enclosure designs call out to customers, with their unique design and marketing on them, some are even referred to as works of art. Every kiosk needs an enclosure, with the look and feel being as subtle or flamboyant as a person’s imagination. Some enclosures have been simple for example a monitor on a pole, to the ridiculous like the giant iPhones and Blackberry mobile phones, used by Car Phone Warehouse to market the relevant smart phones.

When choosing a kiosk for a marketing application, you have to make the right choice otherwise rather than boosting a bottom line it can sink it! An enclosure is the first thing a consumer comes into contact with, so they have to be appealing, or then will not get used.

LCD Enclosure Global are the worlds leading manufacturer of a unique range or waterproof LCD enclosure, that are used for outdoor digital signage solutions throughout the world. From outdoor TV box to self-serve kiosks.

Digital Signage & Transmission Platforms.

Transmission is the hidden link in any digital signage system, choosing the wrong platform can result in a costly budget overrun, here we will try and explain so you so you do not over run on the project.

Due to the advantages and drawbacks of a networked infrastructure, fibre optic cable or CAT cable, it is frequently advisable to use a combination of these technologies for optimum performance at the lowest possible price.

Fibre Optic & CAT5 Cable.
When dealing with high resolution media over long distances that must be broadcast to a group of displays, a combination of fibre optic and CAT5 cable is the optimum solution. In this case, fibre optic cable is used for distance broadcasting together with a local CAT5 video broadcaster for “splitting” the broadcasts to the multiple displays. This is a simple solution to install, since all that is needed is to connect the fibre optic receiver with the CAT5 video broadcaster. And the use of CAT5 for the last 50-150 metres or 150-500 feet of cable instead of fibre optic cable can provide significant cost savings.

Data Network & CAT5 Cable.
When managing multiple groups of digital signage displays form a remote location, a combination of data networking and local CAT5 cabling can give the user the best of both worlds: remote management over IP combined with low cost and network independent infrastructure. The “last mile” use for CAT5 in place of data networks at the display end saves the cost of the display end CPU’s for every display.

All that is needed is a central server that is remotely managed through the data network. The local server is connected to multiple displays through CAT5 technology, freeing the local installation form network dependency. Meaning that each display is network independent and each installation is less expensive to implement.

So no matter if you have your digital signage system outdoors, in an LCD enclosure or a plasma enclosure, there is a solid, reliable solution for transmission.

Digital LCD signage posters used in reception areas.

What is the first thing you see when ever you enter a company’s reception area?

This is a certain way to capture visitor’s attention whilst waiting for their scheduled appointments. Now one of the best tools on the market is an LCD digital advertising poster, these come in a range of sizes from 19” up to 32”.

Creating the ads is also easy, all you need to do is add a couple of digital images or you can create a video and add that too.

Well what could you put on an LCD digital poster?

Well anything can go onto a LCD poster, images of products - you can put them on a CF memory card and then use different options to phase the images in and out. You can add videos promoting your products with rolling text that has a call to action.

Cost of ownership.

One of the main things that makes a project successful is the cost of ownership, if it is too high the project will fail. Well with any digital poster most of the software you need to create a campaign is already on your computer, so the ownership is very low.

If you have a product, take some pictures of it and promote it.

Who can use a digital LCD poster?

Well anyone from small mom and pa stores, dentists, doctors, beauty salons, universities and restaurants – basically anyone who has a product can use an LCD advertising poster and increase their brand awareness.

One draw back…

The only draw back is that the posters cannot be networked so any content updates have to be either through the CF card or through a USB connection that is built into the poster, all you need to do is to add content to a flash drive and then upload it via the USB – this is ideal is you have multiple posters in one location.

LCD is an abbreviation for Liquid Crystal Display and this name is getting popular now days and more and more people have started enjoying the clarity of these displays. This is also the reason the digital signage market has started using these displays in their systems.

Now it is very common to see an LCD television or a plasma TV near a pool or hot tub at someone;s home. The the ever popular problem how to protect them fromt he elements and theft.

What if a suddenly rains? Are these LCD display resistant to water? The answer is a definite no. These displays can easily get damaged even with slightest contact with water. So what is the solution for this? Well the simplest solution is a waterproof LCD enclosure, also called a weatherproof LCD enclosure, these actually protect the display from the water to IP65 (European standard) and NEMA 4X (US standards).

In extreme temperatures the units can be cooled/heated with air conditioning units to a vast temperature scale. This allows both plasma & LCD displays the added protection needed in crazy temperature zones.

Now there is protection should you wish to put an LCD or plasma TV outdoors, the waterproof plasma enclosures (or weatherproof plasma enclosures)are similar to the LCD units but a little deeper.

DOOH – Reaching Captive Audiences

Digital Out Of Home advertising is a global phenomena this is one of the fastest growing markets. Learn how to the best reach captive audiences.

From an advertising viewpoint, airports are perfect for reaching the captive audience; because once the passengers have checked in they are captive…Because what do we all do once we have ditched the baggage?

• We look for some where to get something to eat
• Go to the duty free store
• Buy a drink and a magazine

It is a known fact that “wait warping”, (when consumers pay more attention to digital signage is when they are waiting). Digital signs help by giving a perceived shorter wait time by entertaining the consumer.

Targeting the Jet set.

One company is actively targeting celebrities, athletes. You don’t get more exclusive than the Jet set, do you? They only target people who have a net worth of $10 million with an investment portfolio of $6 million.

Now this company have deployed large 80” screens that give the well heeled advanced passenger information, allowing them to inform limo drivers and family members of delays etc.

One part of the display is given to a radar screen and the other is given to local services and products, so you can see what jets are for sale.

Using this type of advertising, one company used negative advertising and increased their sales, the Cessna jet company decided to reduce their prices and sold more turbo props, proving that digital advertising works.

Digital Signage – Do You Know The Difference Between DiD’s and DEP’s?

In the early days when digital signage began its evolution, they used basic televisions that were fed media content, these units took up lots of space and something needed to be done to save space.

With the fast development of the flat panel television, digital signs have boomed, due to the fact that the displays offer excellent colour reproduction and they come in many different sizes. From 19” to 26” used at gas stations, to 70” displays that are “tiled” together to create a huge video wall.

With the profile of the display being so small, dynamic digital signs can be put into unobtrusive locations, it is the content that catches the eyes of the target audience.

Then we saw the development of the Interactive kiosks, these are occasionally placed in banks or building societies, coupled with a webcam they will record the individual and to see exactly what they were interested in, so the marketing team can then formulate a plan to sell services that appeal that that demographic group.

These Interactive kiosks have come a long way in such a short time, to what is being called DiD’s, this stands for Digital Interactive Displays, they provide two purposes, one is to enhance the shoppers experience as well as allowing the brand that is being marketed to interact with the shopper, making it difficult or the shopper to forget. Surely, this would create a good talking point between girls, whilst shopping?

Then there are DEP’s, this stands for Digital Escalator Panels. These are normally smaller units from 20” to 32” and are built into a wall recess on escalators. They are positioned at an average adult eye level, so that passengers can take some enjoyment from the signs, Each DEP is normally part of a digital signage network, this makes uploading fresh content quicker and easier, with just a few clicks of the mouse, several hundred displays can be provided with new marketing material that is pertinent to the actual time of day or even date.

How networked digital signage solutions synchronize.

This is a question commonly asked - "how does a digital signage network synchronize?"

The simple answer is that the network that the signage software is run on is controlled by an "NTP Server", these are a sophisticated atomic clock accurate to 1 second in 1 million years! Using these network time servers along with digital signage enables global companies to control their global signage network from one central location and reduce the running costs of any advertising campaign as well as implementation costs.

LCD Enclosures Global have partnered with one of the UK's up and coming specialists in Network Time Protocol Servers, so that our clients can benefit from both industry experiences, from their range of LCD enclosure to a totally synchronised signage network. Their partner is NTP Servers UK.

LCD enclosures & outdoor digital signage

Outdoor digital signage is becoming one of the fastest growing market sectors not to be suffering in this economic slow down, with more and more businesses fighting for every contract and order, they are now using technology to win the fight for more business.

There are solutions out from small digital posters through to a complete digital signage networks, covering entire countries and even locations throughout the world! Now with digital signage outdoors, you have to put the displays and players into an LCD enclosure, that protects them from the weather, as well as vandals.

They also manufacture a waterproof LCD
enclosure

Discover Why LCD Enclosures Are Needed For Outdoor Digital Signage

As more companies use outdoor digital signage, the demand for protective LCD enclosures is increasing dramatically. No matter where you look, you will see digital signage.

Restaurants use electronic signs to make the waiting to be seated time seem shorter, by playing ads for their menu and food they serve, especially the specials. Hair salons use digital signage to sell additional hair care products to existing customers, squeezing every single cent out of them.

So these digital signage solutions work, in that they increase turnover and so the profit increases.

Now imagine if you were investing in digital signage and you had paid for the LCD television, the media player, the Internet connection (either hard wired or wireless) and created the content only to find that after a few days after the signage solution is installed, you have to go back to site to find the sign damaged. You then have to spend more money on the investment which makes the return on investment take longer.

Another scenario is if you locate the electronic billboard in an area that is prone to rain, snow or even direct sunlight, these will have negative effects on the signage hardware. We all know what would happen if water in any form came into contact with the TV, like any electronics it would fail.

Now, there is an answer to these issues, it is a specially manufactured protective LCD TV enclosure, this protects from vandalism, as the LCD and media player are positioned behind a bullet proof window, protecting against vandalism.

They are also ideal for protecting the electronic signs in extreme temperatures, the units can be fitted with different cooling and heating devices to cover a wide range of operating temperatures from -20 degrees to 150 degrees in direct sunlight. These enclosures protect to IP66 and NEMA specifications.

So now there are no limitations to where a sign can be located.

Digital Signage is one of the fastest growing markets, even in a recession. Discover what LCD enclosures and digital signage can do to increase your businesses profit.

Digital Signage Solutions for all budgets.

When people "dip their toe in the water", for digital signage there are many products that are available to them, from solutions that cost as little as $400 to complete outdoor digital signage solutions that cost $2500 - there is a solution for everyone!

  1. The digital poster, this is an LCD display that is around 19" wide x 23" high and runs off of a memory card, all you need to do is create your media content and drag n drop onto the memory card. Lock the memory card in position (for security reasons) then hang the poster on the wall. Advantages are they are very affordable and easily reused. Limitations you can not "daisy chain" them to provide a digital signage network.
  2. Interactive Kiosks - these interact with visitors, so that you can actually test demographics, you could install a web cam that records when anyone approaches the kiosk, then logs every product or service they visit on the kiosk. Advantages - very user friendly. Limitations - Cost! Can cost up to $2,500, used indoors.
  3. Outdoor digital signage - this is an LCD TV, media player and a digital signage enclosure. The enclosures houses the signage hardware and provides protective to NEMA 4X and IP65 standards. A recession proof business due to grow by 129% this year

Dynamic Digital Advertising is leading the forefront in advertising and the digital signage has indicated that sales will increase by 129% in 2009 alone, even in an economic slow down!

The increase in narrowcast is due to the falling costs of the technology used in digital signage, such as the LCD and plasma televisions, media players are also coming down in price, this is now making digital signage more affordable for everyday businesses, rather than the large corporations who previously used electronic billboards.

With the increase in use of digital signage, we are seeing a growth of LCD displays being installed everywhere, these are used for:

  • Public Information Points for passenger information on trains, ferry's and airports.

  • Brand building.

For a successful digital signage campaign, only 4 elements are required.

  1. The advertising campaign. This is the content you are going to use to increase your sales and your profit. This can easy be achieved by searching on Google for "Free digital signage software", once downloaded, all you need to do is drag and drop your content (this can be images, audio, video and text) that is already on your computer and it's done!

  2. Display device. This is basically either an LCD display or a Plasma display with the advancement of technology, there is very little that separates them now, you can also use a touch screen display that then creates an interactive experience for the customer.

  3. Media player. This is the mini computer that holds the content, it will have an Internet connection, either hard wired or wireless for remote updates and is a fifth the size of a computer.

  4. Protection for the digital signage hardware. When the sign is part of an digital outdoor signage solution, the need for protection is increased due to the increase in vandalism to the display and media player. Also the hardware will require protection from the weather, one of the best options and most cost effective is an LCD enclosure or plasma enclosure, depending upon the display used. These enclosures are manufactured to European IP rating standards as well as the American NEMA standard.

LCD Enclosures For Digital Signage Protection

we offer LCD Enclosures For Digital Signage Protection.

As more and more businesses evolve, they realise that they need to increase their corporate image, this is how the new technology of digital signage started, with a company sign. The European digital signage market will be worth an estimated $1 billion by 2012, with the US digital display signage market worth an estimated $3.5 billion by 2011.

America has been at the fore front of digital signage solutions for years, by providing bus advertising,LCD signage, outdoor advertising, digital billboards, airport announcements and video walls.

No matter were we are in the world, just look around and take note of the electronic signs around us. The best digital signage I have seen is at Dusseldorf airport – man the digital advertising is awesome, the outdoor signage meets you when you exit the taxi’s even before you get in to the airport!

  1. Digital signage technology consists of Digital signage advertising and is becoming huge business, as it can be controlled by 1 person for up to 1,000 LCD sign, you do need some special signage software but we will come to that later. Digital signage becomes less labour intensive and more profitable.
  2. So what do you need to get started? A digital signage system comprises of digital displays, no matter if it is plasma screens or LCD TVs, then you need the software, an LCD enclosure (that will protect the display from dust, dirt and rain) for any outdoor digital signage and a computer that the user can control. This can be controlled by an internet connection or wireless network, giving the user the benefit of wireless digital signage.
  3. Once you have decided on the location, the LCD enclosure has to be sited, (bolted to the floor and cabled up; network and power). Then the display is installed in to the enclosure along with the computer. Now the user has to create media content, this is then sent via the internet `now be working.
  4. Computer Security & Solutions work with a company who have created their own digital signage software, this enables the end user to create digital media (sometimes called digital signage content) for their digital sign. So no matter if it is a video wall (the displays can be tilled) or just a single digital billboard, this software is idiot proof, ensuring a professional digital signage design is achieved with minimal effort. The end result is dynamic digital signage that corporations would pay $1,000s for. The software can control up to 1,000 displays, they can all be the same or different, this is what makes this software unique.
  5. The plasma display/LCD enclosures protect the plasma screens from the weather as well as vandalism; there would be nothing worse than finding that the $3,000 Plasma TV or LCD TV had been smashed by a vandal. The enclosures offer Industrial protection and are cooled by special filtered fan units, so once they are sited, set and forget!

As technology advances, so does digital display systems, in 2011 digital signage businesses will be booming, it will be like the gold rush! Because it enables all businesses to advertise on a level playing field, you will see digital signage displays in schools, retail outlets (so you can see the demo of the product they are promoting), banks (to see what is the best account for you) video walls and outside advertising displays.

The LCD enclosures manufactured by Computer Security & Solutions have been installed at railway stations, factory floors, airports and on sides of buildings, coupled with the signage software, makes the signage systems complete. This is not Powerpoint digital signage, this is the next level in digital signage and allows you to create unlimited free digital signage.

Computer Security & Solutions digital signage packages include free digital signage software when any LCD enclosure is purchased, or you can purchase the software separately, together they make the ultimate in LCD digital signage.

The protective enclosures manufactured can accommodate a single LCD display or up to a video wall of 9 displays x 42" screens.

You can contact Computer Security & Solutions on +44 844 3578687 or alternatively call their US office on (888) 460 3573.
