Digital Signage – Do You Know The Difference Between DiD’s and DEP’s?

In the early days when digital signage began its evolution, they used basic televisions that were fed media content, these units took up lots of space and something needed to be done to save space.

With the fast development of the flat panel television, digital signs have boomed, due to the fact that the displays offer excellent colour reproduction and they come in many different sizes. From 19” to 26” used at gas stations, to 70” displays that are “tiled” together to create a huge video wall.

With the profile of the display being so small, dynamic digital signs can be put into unobtrusive locations, it is the content that catches the eyes of the target audience.

Then we saw the development of the Interactive kiosks, these are occasionally placed in banks or building societies, coupled with a webcam they will record the individual and to see exactly what they were interested in, so the marketing team can then formulate a plan to sell services that appeal that that demographic group.

These Interactive kiosks have come a long way in such a short time, to what is being called DiD’s, this stands for Digital Interactive Displays, they provide two purposes, one is to enhance the shoppers experience as well as allowing the brand that is being marketed to interact with the shopper, making it difficult or the shopper to forget. Surely, this would create a good talking point between girls, whilst shopping?

Then there are DEP’s, this stands for Digital Escalator Panels. These are normally smaller units from 20” to 32” and are built into a wall recess on escalators. They are positioned at an average adult eye level, so that passengers can take some enjoyment from the signs, Each DEP is normally part of a digital signage network, this makes uploading fresh content quicker and easier, with just a few clicks of the mouse, several hundred displays can be provided with new marketing material that is pertinent to the actual time of day or even date.
